With the recycling world in turmoil, it is comforting to know that there are concrete things that we can do in our daily lives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the landfill. Besides being conscientious about what we buy, and what kind of packaging, it comes in, reducing waste and composting food waste are a great start. Food waste can comprise more than 20% of the municipal waste stream – far more than glass! Join us, and our special guest and ‘worm mentor’, John Christy as we explore the benefits of composting with worms. We’ll provide some background and context before demonstrating our small scale model for taking food through the full cycle of farm to table to farm. You will gain an understanding of the benefits of composting, learn the basics, and discover some great resources for learning more. Free and open to the public, be sure to register (https://slcceep.wufoo.com/forms/zvq6vp51r4it6c) if you would like to take home a fully set-up worm bin OR worms to replenish an existing system.
