Common Ground
On this excursion, we will journey to the Glass Project located on the Umatilla National Forest in the looking glass drainage. Still in the early phases, the project is being planned in collaboration with the Umatilla Forest Collaborative Group (UFCG). UFCG, formed in 2012, is a group of public, private and non-profit stakeholders representing a variety of backgrounds, including environmental groups, counties, loggers, public agencies, and wood product industries.
This tour will explore how these groups from divergent interests came together to find common ground on the forest management of this project that will provide wood products, employment opportunities and revenue to counties, while also improving forest health, protecting water quality and fish and wildlife habitat.
The tour will include a walk around some of the potential units with a discussion of varying levels and methods of harvest and treatment. Protection measures and mitigations for sensitive species and riparian areas will also be explored.
